Managing risk in a rebounding environment

The ability to manage risk has today become a fundamental requirement when it comes to finding and recruiting top talent in the banking industry.

Following the crisis experienced all over the world, managing product, business and compliance risk is now a central tenet of talent and leadership development.

Sarah Clark, Director, Performance Effectiveness & Organisation Capability, Lloyds Banking Group will be one of the speakers at the marcus evans Talent Development and Leadership Management Conference on 31 January-1 February in Barcelona.

Crucially, effective performance management is at the heart of building a high performance culture across Lloyds Banking Group, Clark explains.

It also plays a critical role in helping colleagues to build long term partnerships with customers and strong relationships with each other.

“At Lloyds Banking Group, performance capability is measured through a clear and detailed performance management approach which is transparent to all employees. We have brochures, microsites, masterclasses and posters all explaining our PM approach. All colleagues have annual objectives in five areas (one of which is risk), which are documented in their Balanced Score Card with personalised targets and measures.

“At the end of the year all colleagues are given a performance rating based on their overall contribution during the year assessed against both what they have done (performance against their objectives) and how they have gone about doing it (performance against our values and behaviours). We believe that we measure performance clearly and honestly,” says Clark.

The success of the new PM approach was acknowledged at the 2010 Personnel Today Awards where Lloyds Banking Group received the top award for Managing Change, she adds.

The marcus evans Talent Development and Leadership Management will take place from 31 January -1 February in Barcelona.
