Roy Keane welcomes Kennedy to the fold

Mark Kennedy will join Ipswich Town FC on a two-year deal following his transfer from Cardiff, it was announced this week.

Kennedy, a former international team mate of Ipswich manager Roy Keane, made his first appearance in a blues shirt on Wednesday night (28 July) when they won 1-0 against Bury.

Keane said that defender Kennedy’s addition to the squad will add “quality and experience”.

The manager said he was keen to redress the left-back balance and Kennedy’s arrival at Portman Road will be good for the younger members at the club.

“I played with Sparky and he has got good quality on the ball and he’s a very experienced player and we lack that experience in the group. He can help the young players at this club like Shane [O’Connor] and I’m pleased that we got him on board,” Keane told the ITFC website.

Dublin-born Kennedy began his career at Millwall before going on to play for Liverpool and Manchester City. The 34-year-old also won 32 caps for the Republic of Ireland.
