Recruiting the right talent for an organisation can help it soar to new heights of performance, according to Margarita Theophilou, Summit Producer of the marcus evans HR & Talent Summit 2010.
HR leaders need to be thinking ahead, forecasting future requirements in an attempt to meet company needs in the uncertain months and years to follow.
Theophilou pointed to talent as being at the heart of an organisation defining company identity, driving corporate performance and delivering solid results where they are most needed.
“Talent innovates, thinks out of the box, and surpasses the competition in zeal and ideas to render an organisation the pioneer in its field. Essentially, this is why the value of talent should never be underestimated or taken for granted.
“A frequent error by companies in dire financial straits is letting go of some of their most precious assets - high potentials who have received extensive training and education to lead the corporate ship of tomorrow - and are let go in a moment of desperation to ease the monthly payroll.”
These high potential individuals will eventually be recruited by the competition placing an organisation in a subordinate position, Theophilou warned.
Headhunters should focus on identifying and recruiting talent as swiftly and efficiently as possible. After spotting the person that will make the difference to the organisation, there are several stages which need to ensue in order to attract, recruit, develop, engage and retain top talent, she explained.
Following these guidelines, she added, will help an organisation to move forward, retain its foremost players, and achieve company goals time after time.
